A Doctor of Optometry (optometrist) is an independent health care provider, who specializes in the examination, diagnosis, treatment,
management, and prevention of diseases and disorders of the visual system, the eye and associated structures, as well as the
diagnosis of related systemic conditions.
New Optometry Act and Regulations
A new Optometry Act was passed by the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly on May 18, 2004 and received Royal Assent on June 8, 2004. The act became law when the act and the regulations were proclaimed on October 7, 2005. The act and regulations are available at the following links:
